Early Years Learning Framework

What is the Early Years Learning Framework?

The Early Years Learning Framework is a blueprint developed by the Australian Government, designed to guarantee the provision of quality educational programs in early childhood settings. The Framework views childhood as a stage of belonging, being and becoming:

  • Belonging It’s about establishing a sense of identity through the bonds children form with their family, community, culture, and place.
  • Being This element emphasises the importance of allowing children time to simply ‘be’, to play, explore new experiences, and revel in joy.
  • Becoming This facet is concerned with the learning and development that children undergo, which ultimately shapes the adults they will grow into.

Play as a Learning Tool

Play is integral to a child’s development. Through play, children explore, communicate, discover, imagine, and create. It’s a dynamic way for them to demonstrate what they’ve learned and what they understand. That’s why play is a core foundation of the Early Years Learning Framework.

At East Gosford Early Learning, we harness the power of this Framework to guide your child’s play, meticulously crafting learning activities and stimulating environments, both indoors and outdoors.

Monitoring your Child’s Progress

Utilising the Framework, we observe your child’s learning, which informs our planning of their subsequent steps. We maintain regular communication with you to discuss your child’s progress, using photos and other forms of documentation to illustrate your child’s learning journey, their development, and what particular learning engages them. Prior to your child starting school, we collaborate with your child’s new teacher to ensure the school is well-equipped to continue supporting your child’s learning journey.

A Collaborative Effort

We firmly believe that you, as the most significant person in your child’s life, can make a substantial difference. Engaging in regular conversation with your child’s educator and showing interest in their learning can significantly enhance your child’s learning and wellbeing.

Our Educational Program at East Gosford Early Learning

Our mission at East Gosford Early Learning is to offer a top-quality care and educational program for your child. We provide a curriculum that encompasses holistic development, addressing social, emotional, physical, language and intellectual growth. We are tuned in to the children’s interests, capabilities and needs. We encourage exploration, experimentation and investigation, facilitated through individual or group experiences.

We value parents as the child’s first teachers and see ourselves as an extension of the home environment. In order to optimise our program, we need to cultivate a partnership with families and maintain open communication, fostering a mutual exchange of knowledge.

Our educators play a crucial role in enhancing learning through strategic planning and interactions with children, all the while encouraging, extending, and appreciating children’s spontaneous learning. Children are the centre of our curriculum, and each child is seen as a co-creator of learning, as well as an individual learner.

The Role of Educators in the Learning Process

The dedicated team at East Gosford Early Learning closely observes your child throughout the day. These observations are used to gather information about your child, forming the basis of the individual profile. These profiles highlight each child as a unique individual, serving as the starting point for planning activities within our daily program.

As a team of professionals, we design, implement, and evaluate teaching strategies and learning experiences that will nurture the comprehensive physical, social, emotional, language, and intellectual development of individual children, grounded in each child’s interests.

Our program is primarily hands-on, as we recognise children as active learners who are innately curious. Development of social and language skills is encouraged, and the learning experiences we provide cater to individual needs, encompassing activities such as arts/crafts, songs, stories, construction, music, drama and socio-dramatic play, such as dress ups and home corner play.

During their time at East Gosford Early Learning, children will also engage in art/craft, science, music, language and literature, fine and gross motor skills, drama and movement, as well as communication experiences. Our program focuses on nurturing self-esteem, socialisation, communication, and self-help skills, ensuring that children become responsible and caring individuals.
